Student Services
The Washburn Student Government Association is responsible for the bulk of the money collected from student activity fees. We choose to give it back to the students in the form of student organization funding and the services we offer. Click on any service to learn more about it. Services include:
- Bod Alert Event Reminders
- With Bod Alert, WSGA sends text message reminders of events of interest on campus. This program is growing every day, to sign up go to www.mywsga.com/bodAlert It is totally customizable and totally free! Sign up now!
- Finals Week
- We can't study for you, but we can make Finals Week just a little less stressful. To give you a little break, we give out free food, prizes and MASSAGES! Plus the Library is kept open after hours all week long.
- Lecture Series
- WSGA brings some of the top speakers in the country to campus. Past
participants include the real Dr. Patch Adams, award winning humanitarians and authors such as Ishmael Beah and Greg Mortenson and adventurer turned
entrepenuer Skip Yowell.
This semester, we will be bringing vice president turned informant Mark Whitacre (as played by Matt Damon in this fall's The Informant) and filmmaker/social activist Morgan Spurlock. Don't miss these great events!

- Free notebooks/planners
- WSGA makes free spiral notebooks and free week-at-a-glance planners to all Washburn students. The front of these also contains several pages of very useful information, so be sure you to pick yours up today outside of the WSGA office in the lower level of Memorial Union.
- Textbook Rentals
- Working in conjuction with the bookstore, WSGA is proud to announce that a textbook rental program is being tested with a few books this semester and more to come! For more information go to www.washburnbookstore.com.
- Collegiate Readership
- Pick up your free copies of USA Today, The New York Times, and Topeka Capital-Journal. Just pick up the paper from open-air bins located in Henderson, Petro, Stauffer and the Union! This is a great way to stay up on current events!
- Free Printing
- That's right!! WSGA helps support FREE printing to all students in Mabee Library. This is a very popular program, so make sure that you leave plenty of time to print materials before class starts.
- Safe Ride: 267-3777
- Safe Ride provides a complimentary one-way ride from a drinking establishment (bar or restaurant with a bar) to a residence.
- Students must show their Washburn Student ID
- May only be used between the hours of 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. during the school year (not summer or winter breaks)
- WU students may be accompanied by non-WU students, but only one destination is allowed.
-Destination must be in Topeka.
- Students may only receive ONE RIDE PER NIGHT.
- Safe Ride provides a complimentary one-way ride from a drinking establishment (bar or restaurant with a bar) to a residence.
- iSave- Student Discount Program
- The Student Discount Program is a group of local businesses that offer special discounts with a valid Washburn iCard. We work to include businesses that students use, so if you have a suggestion, submit it here. These discounts will literally save students hundreds of dollars, participating businesses can be found here.
- Student Organization Funding
- Registered student organizations are eligible for up to $2,500 for off-campus events and $3,500 total per year. Apply early since funding is on a first-come, first-served basis. Find out more here.
Student organizations may request a senator be assigned to them. This senator will maintain regular contact with the organization, and act as a liaison. The purpose of this program is to readily answer any question that might pertain to WSGA and bridge any gaps between the two organizations.

- Ichabod Welcome Week and Homecoming
- Each year, WSGA co-sponsors these, and other, events to promote school spirit among students, faculty, and alumni.
- Fostering Community Connections
- Washburn Student Government has worked closely with the city of Topeka and Heartland Visioning to continue to make our community better.
Programs such as the WSGA co-sponsored "WU in the Community" have brought Washburn students into the community through organized clean-ups, going to city council meetings, and working closely with alumni to make the area around campus more student oriented.

- Can Emporia!
- In addition to the above mentioned programs, WSGA competes with the student government of Emporia State in an annual can drive. In the three years this competition has taken place, Washburn has one twice consecutively and over 100 thousand cans have been raised for local charities. Be sure to donate this fall to help make it a three-peat!
